Q: Why does Creation Kit not load assets?

A: After Creation Kit is installed on you'r PC, you will need B.A.E. to obtain Fallout 4 game assets.

Question about contributing tips[edit source]

I've recently got into modding Fallout 4 and would like to contribute tips and tricks articles as I learn. Where is the best place/format to post this?

For example: I just figured out a way to avoid finalizing or editing vanilla external navmeshes while still allowing companions to follow the player out of custom interior cells. It took a few days to figure out and I'd like to share the information I learned so that the next person who wants this solution can find it.

Thanks in advance.

Finalizing Navmeshes in Fallout 4 seems to be safe, but as you're new to modding it appears, you can take the Skyrim-safe route and only finalize when you need to connect a triangle to a load door in the exterior cell. In Skyrim it is safe to move vanilla triangles, but not safe to delete any of them.--Twilight Sky (talk) 2016-09-15T11:40:48 (EDT)
Here's a link: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1464647-the-navmesh-compendium/?hl=%2Bnavmesh+%2Bcompendium to some threads (for skyrim but again, it's mostly "safe-routes") on navmeshing, which still should largely apply to Fallout. --Twilight Sky (talk) 2016-09-15T11:43:00 (EDT)
Thank you very much Twilight, that is helpful information and I learned a lot reading through it. I decided to stick with not touching the navmesh for a few other reasons. I posted my solution on the nexus forums in case it helps anyone else: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/4862395-alternative-to-finalizing-exterior-navmeshes/
You're welcome. Nothing wrong with erring on the side of caution with navmesh. We have no documented info on how stable the navmesh system is for Fallout 4. Better safe than sorry.--Twilight Sky (talk) 2016-09-17T01:15:22 (EDT)
